PAST PRESIDENT'S REPORT
By Rick Renshaw

In late March, I was attending a NASFAA Finance and Audit committee meeting in Washington DC. It was a very interesting and lively meeting. I can report to you that NASFAA is in very good financial shape. At the meeting, Dallas Martin provided some information on the current issue surrounding the recent press activity concerning investigations by the New York state attorney general. By the time you read this article, you may have already begun receiving information to help you promote the ethical practices that you employ in providing good, sound financial aid advice to your current and prospective students. It is a shame that politics and greed are sullying the reputation, respect, and trust that our profession has worked so hard to develop and protect over the past forty years. I would encourage each of you to examine best practices in the development of lender lists that your school provides to potential student borrowers. I would also encourage each of you to continue to be open, honest and above reproach in your relationships with our lender colleagues.

After a busy year as President, I thought things would settle down. However, I believe that I am as busy as ever. In late April, I am scheduled to be in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the NASFAA Board Meeting and then in July I will be attending my last NASFAA board meeting as regional representative for SWASFAA. This has been a tremendous learning experience for me. I truly appreciate the opportunity to represent our great region at the national level. Thank you again for the support you have given to SWASFAA. There truly in no better association of colleagues in our profession than we have here in the southwest.
